Is the American standard of living declining?

how can i argue about it, what are some main points that i can talk about to make it a research paper?|||Look how far down we have come for president and congress.|||It is for the middle class slnce the recession started in '07, under Bush.|||Absolutely. Consider that a single income (a regular income, too, not a high one) used to support a family of four with a house and one or two cars. Nowadays, not a chance, even in areas with a low cost of living.

The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer and the middle class keep inching their way towards being poor.|||Conservative pundit, Pat Buchanan has actually written several op/ed pieces regarding such a decline in the last couple of months. Check out his past columns on Yahoo or the Creators Syndicate website.

I don't always agree with his conclusions, yet these pieces had a certain truth behind them.|||Ever since November 4th 2008..and it got worse on January 21 2009....|||Go to the library and look up articles in the newspapers. Search for items in the business section. Good topics would be the unemployment rates in different states, Illegals going back accross the border due to lack of work, baby boomers having to retire early because they can't find work, credit card companies increasing rates %26amp; cutting card maximums, home foreclosures, retail store bankruptsies, rising cost of food, gas %26amp; utilities, rising cost of health care and health insurance. There's a wealth of information there. Talk to your parents and their neighbors. You'll get an earfull. Good luck on your paper.|||Yes, a single income used to support a family of four. In a tiny, crackerbox house. With one car. At a time when eating out once or twice a year was seen as an extravagence. No computers, no internet, no cell phones. I grew up in the '50s and '60s. Quote all the statistics you want, but the standard of living now is far, far better than it was back then. And for those who would say that it's due to technological advances, isn't that the point? Capitalism rewards innovation.|||no it is actually increasing......after a recession there is always years of growth where the standard of living rises....|||lol JP is an idiot and doesn't understand anything about Microeconomics.
