Is it Nixon's doing that has dragged down the American standard of living?

Nixon opened the doors to China back in '73. 37 years later we are regretting all the cheap CHinese produced products the American consumer purchases. If Nixon did not open the doors in the Wall of China, would we be in as bad od an economic mess not?|||Unless I'm mistaken there have been quit a few presidents since then. Please correct me if I'm wrong.|||I think normalising Sino-American relations was one of Nixon's biggest political achievements. In the middle of the Cold War, Nixon was the first U.S. President to stretch his hand out and travel to communist China to establish diplomatic relations. And a healthy relationship between two nations usually involves trade.





And anyway, most of the Chinese produced products found in US stores are products produced by western companies.|||For the guy who said no one has to buy Chinese goods if they do not want to, think again. Many US flags are made in China. Boy Scout uniforms are made in China. There are many products that people use that are made in China that are no longer made in the US.





At the time that Nixon did this, it was thought that the US had more to gain than to loose. We were still thinking that our manufacturing would hold out. Those who made these choices had little idea of how it would back blow over the decades. The problem is that presidents after wards loosened trade laws.|||The American way of life is responsible for reducing the American standard of living. Big trucks big houses and big bombs. The price we pay for having to much of everything. Selfish people in your country who live the American Dream are making sure the majority don't. Also you stop the trade with china. Who will make that decision??? no one!!!!!!|||if it wasn't china it would have been india...its our monetary policies off the gold standard that perpetuated our fiscal ills with Nixon|||Actually Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Jimmy Carter destroyed the economy.





We are living with the results of some very bad policy decisions that were made during those Presidencies.|||No I would have to say it was all the Negroe Loving Democrats that destroyed the standard of living.|||Nobody has to buy cheap Chinese products if they don't want to.|||Actually it was Bush.
