Whats the difference between fender stratocaster standard and american?

im planning on getting an electric guitar, and i found new standard ones for $700 and new american ones for $1200 but i really cant see a difference. does the other one play better? which one do you advise?|||Hello! The made-in-Mexico Fender Standard Stratocasters represent an excellent value, with a build quality, hardware, and components that come close to their American counterparts. The MIA models will play and sound slightly better (subjectively), but most intermediate players will find these to be subtle improvements. Since this may be your first electric guitar, why spend the extra money for a made-in-America Stratocaster until you have had a chance to truly evaluate your needs? Check Craig's List (see http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ , and select your city/state/country) for local prices and availability; I regularly see MIM Stratocasters advertised for $275 to $375, some even with upgraded parts (see http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msg/1485鈥?/a> for an example). The least expensive MIA Stratocaster I have seen recently was $575 (see http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/msg/1478鈥?/a> ), but most are in the $650 to $950 range. Don't be afraid to negotiate the final price! Best regards, Dana
