Why is the american standard of thermal energy, btu, which stands for British Thermal Unit?

I need some direct reasons, as my teacher just asked me in my class.|||This unit is now old %26amp; outdated. Since the introduction of the Systeme Internationale some 30 years ago (Metric), all prehistoric %26amp; difficult units have been discarded. BTU is now referred to kW (kilowatts) in the modern world.

There is only one conceivable reason why the USA still insists upon using the outdated Imperial system - it costs too much to change. Strangely, many countries changed from Imperial to Metric 30 years ago.|||For the same reason that the American standard language is English.

Ironically Britain has changed to metric for the most part|||The BTU is what America adopted for quantifying thermal energy.
