What is the American Standard of Living?

I hear people use this term a lot, but I don't know what it means.|||It means you are free to work for wealth or prosperity and own property to your appropriate income level without the fear that the government will confiscate your property without legal cause based upon our Constitution. The Constitution defined it as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.|||Standard of living is a relative term describing the luxuries a person enjoys due to the ratio of his wage to the cost of living in the area of said person's residence. An example of an "American" standard of living might be Joe Blow works a 40 hour week building widgets for $15/hour, and has a mortgage, two car loans, high speed internet, big screen TV with satellite, and goes bowling every Wednesday night while his wife gets her nails done down at the corner beauty parlor, and the kids play Uncharted 2 on their PS3. Meanwhile, in China there is a worker that builds PS3s at a factory, 60 hour week, making $1.20/hour, while his wife and one kid clean up the grass hut and skin rabbits for supper. That being an example of the "Chinese standard of living".|||A level of material comfort as measured by the goods, services, and luxuries available to an individual, group, or nation. For instance, the Average American family has a home, car, multiple TV's, cellphones, a large wardrobe, clean running water, food, medicine etc.

In many other nations, they have much less of or none of these things. It mostly refers to how much of your daily effort must go toward survival and how much daily effort goes toward other pursuits.

Link below is an example of this.

*|||Well on average Americans in general have more luxuries than most other countries. There are definitely people who land on extreme ends of the spectrum, but on average we have a large middle class. And compared to most places people live rather comfortably here. We generally have all the basic necessities like food, shelter, etc. but we also have items most people in other places don't get without being wealthy. That includes things like cars, material things, nice homes, a good education, etc.|||Its easy to see now-a-days. Our standard is that of demanding entitlements. We feel everything should be given to us or issued to us by the government. Look how different we are from the WWII generation. They sacrificed resources for the greater good, but people now will flip out if they cant have an ipod.|||hi speed internet to look at porn, and a 40 inch wide screen television set to watch I love Lucy reruns. and a wal-mart within a 2 mile radius and a Japanese car in every garage .... God Bless America,|||my standard of living is the ability to house and feed my family with a little left over for gas so i can get to work and toilet paper and electricity so i can wipe my butt and have heat.|||Being free, living in a republic, having the opportunity to pursue the American dream, etc..|||Our POOR are better off than most of the world.

We are FREE and able to live the American Dream...thanks to the GOP regaining some power.|||Just the quality of life of most Americans|||out of the gutter
