Will an American standard gas mask replacement canister fit onto a GP5 Soviet Gas Mask?

I have a Soviet GP5 gas mask, with a canister. The canister has expired and is no longer useful, i wanted to buy a new one, but the GP5 canisters are not on slae anymore. Will the American replacements fit on to it or not, and if they don't is an adapter readily available?|||NO! The thread size is different. I know of no adapters.
