I have had a local AC company tell me that I need to replace the evaporator coil in my attic. Since the thing is so expensive, I have asked several other companys to quote. So far everyone is trying me to get either Carrier or American Standard brand. Is one better than the other? Why?|||They're both about the same, both are probably made by Superior anyhow,|||Carrier. No more needs to be said.
Lennox is the best along with Bryant, but go with your Carrier.|||Neither is any better. Those coils arent even made by either Carrier or Am Standard, they are made by independent contractors who make and design coils.
And just why are you going to replace that coil? Dirty? Leaky Pan? No other reason I can think of and I worked for Trane for years . I would never replace an evaporator coil, even with a leaky pan there are replacement pans that fit right under the existing pan.
And as far as dirty, well, go to Walmart and by a hand held steamer which sells for about $20, then get a handyman to clean the thing out using that little hand held steamer.
I think there are so many scams going on in the AC business today, I hear of so may un-needed things done to AC that are of Zero benefit to the owner, and replacing an existing evaporator coil is on the scam list.
The only time to replace an evaporator coil is when you install a new condenser outside unit. Do those together along with a brand new line set that connects the two for longer life and a clean job.|||I like carrier i have had excellent luck for many years.
