I know there is many different regionals accents. however, there is a "standard american accent" no matter the differences btw regional accents. I was wondering if there is someone who has been able to adapt and change his/her accent. I need some good advices (the method you used,etc..) for several reasons....for my professional and acting career. thanks a lot|||It's not easy learning to speak standard american..... I have practiced for years and years... But, I think I have it down as good as anyone else, such as myself... that's been born and raised here... If your a foreigner, then you'd need to stop trying to be an imposter and a fake...... you haven't earned the right....|||Why the h ... would you want to do that|||Don't try and imitate a Southern accent. You will look very dumb. Go for the standard California talk. And don't use Pittsburgh PA words or sayings we speak pigeon English here. Another problem would be trying to speak like someone from New York / New Jersey. Focus on the standard English pronunciations because that is where you will be successful. Don't try to imitate any local dialects you'll be laughed at. Go for standard spoken English. And get rid of all those extra "s's" at the end of your words. It's "regional accents" and you don't say "advices" it's "advice". You never look for "advices".|||If you are a foreigner, move to the United States and take diction lessons from a professional. American actors and actresses do that to either get rid of their own accents or to learn to speak with a specific accent for a movie role.
My husband was born in Brooklyn and raised in Long Island, however, he has no accent, but that is because he lived in Florida, Chicago and California. He didn't plan to speak in a certain way.
Me? I have an accent and proudly "wear" it.
