Is American Standard a reliable brand of toilet?

I have a plumber who says my toilet needs replaced. He was on his way to get a Crane from the parts house, but they were out so he opted for American Standard, 10.00 more. Is this a reliable brand? Hurry, He's on his way back now! Thanks.|||American Standard certainly makes some popular toilet models. You didn't mention a specific model that your plumber was getting, but since he is picking it out then you should be able to hold him accountable if it doesn't perform well.

Once you know the specific model name and number then you can look up its performance in one of the following test reports on toilets and see how well it rated.

In a 2002 study performed by/for the National Association of Home Builders Research Center several of the Toto brand toilets did very well and scored at the top of the flush performance index. American Standard toilets scored lower, most in the lower half of the list. You can view the full report at http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/watercon/down鈥?/a>

In a 2005 study prepared for the California Urban Water Council several of the American Standard toilets scored highest in the Maximum Performance Tests, which tested how much material a toilet could flush without getting clogged. Out of over 30 American Standard models only 5 scored below the minimum acceptable performance level these testers established. It is one of the more "high end" brands. I would recommend using one.|||nope get a Toto, they are the most reliable.American standard is very cheep.Crane is better than American standard.American standard is the cheapest one out there

toto makes their toilet with a larger trap and the porcline finish in the trap.this makes toto's clog less than any other brand.there is no comparison.if yo get th eamerican standard then make sure you keep a plunger next to it , your going to need it|||We have American Standard toilets and bathtubs in all three of our bathrooms. We've lived here over 6 years and have had absolutely no problems with any them at all.|||American Standard is a great brand of plumbing fixture when my Father was in business before turning it over to me American Standard was all he would use|||Don't let anyone give you any crap!! All toilets work fine due to their design. It's just a matter of preference as to how they look and how comfortable they are. The plumbing parts inside make the difference as to how well they work. Not the toilet it's self.|||Yes, American Standard is a quality toilet , as it doesn't take s.hit from anybody.|||yeah. thats what we have, and it's lasted us seven years so far.|||Most likely the plumber will opt for the bottom of the line no matter what brand it is. One major factor is the size of the throat. Cheaper toilets have smaller throats and a prone to clogging. If the toilet has a 2 3/8" fully glazed trapway you should be OK. The cheaper ones (builder's specials, $99 for toilet and tank) usually have much smaller trapways and inferior design and are almost guaranteed to clog.

I installed an American Standard Champion about 18 months ago and it has not clogged once. Before that I had a $99 made in Mexico cheapie and it clogged every time you used it.

Why buy a cheap toilet just to save money and then have to use a plunger on the thing every day? Do you know how gross, nasty and gagging that can be? Yuck.
